Its truly been a while since I’ve painted and loved it. I discovered my liking for abstract painting during my last semester of college, when I was desperate for a change in my senior thesis topic. So thats what I’ve been doing since graduating. I’ve done a few commissions that have made people really happy, and that in turn makes me happy. I will continue to do these paintings, and show them to the world. I love that they can become anything to anyone.
However, these paintings are purely aesthetic. This incorporates my love for interior design, and the feeling of space/how paintings live in them. If I learned anything from my fine art degree (can you sense the slight tone of regret here) its that things done purely for aesthetic purposes are useless in the “fine art” world. This in no way means that I’m trying to participate in this language, or break into the fine art world. But it is a terrible feeling when people tell you that you’re talented and you don’t feel the click because what you spent 4 years learning turned out to be not what you wanted. After years of confusion, I finally I felt that click after I saw Bohemian Rhapsody 4 times, and painted this jacket for my Freddie Mercury-adoring sister. Freddie reminded me of everything. My love for photo-realism, portraits, my love for giving people something they thought could never exist. Just as Freddie did to the world. He reignited the light within me for art, and made me realize that there is so much more than what people think you should do. Its all inside of us, and we just have to be brave enough to let it out. “You can be anything you want to be, just turn yourself into anything you think that you could ever be.” -Freddie Mercury
